Donald Trump once spoke proudly about his son Barron Trump, saying that a simple thing he does shows he has “unbelievable aptitude in technology.”
However, many people were confused by the remark, as it sounded like Trump was describing something fairly ordinary.
Barron, 19, whom Trump shares with Melania Trump, is currently studying at New York University’s Stern School of Business. In a 2025 interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Trump praised his son’s abilities.
He said all of his children are intelligent and hardworking, adding that they love their country and take pride in him.
When asked what specific strengths Barron has—such as in business or politics—Trump instead highlighted his tech skills, calling them “unbelievable.”
He explained that after turning off Barron’s laptop, he returned minutes later to find it back on. When he asked how, Barron replied, “None of your business, Dad.” Trump took this as proof of his son’s impressive technical ability.
Online, many people interpreted the story as simply describing someone reopening a laptop, joking that Trump might not realize features like sleep mode exist. Others sarcastically suggested he was overpraising something basic.
Still, some believed there might be more to the story—such as Barron bypassing a password or restriction, which would be more technically impressive than just turning the device back on.
Trump later added that he feels fortunate with his children, describing them as good, hardworking individuals and saying they share a strong relationship.
